Johnny Wilkins will be hosting a bank fishing demo and social fishing event Saturday morning.

The Chicago (Irish Fishing Social Series)… please let people at the meeting know they can show up, fish and or show up of the fish photo and viewing at 12:30 pm.

The goal of the event is to get people out shore fishing and to jump-start the shore fishing around the area. Cheap, local fishing fun.

For the demo, I will be fishing for 100 fish as well as trying to catch a total of 20 lb. of fish during the 4-hour session.

Water conditions are not ideal, but should be average and I may be able to pull it off. A combination of lots of fish action as well as attempting to land a couple big fish to add to the total will help me reach that goal.

Shore fishing around the area can be a lot of action as well as very big fish. On light tackle, this is ultimate fishing at a great price!! For the price of 1 trip to a fishing resort, you could catch a ton of fish right near home and fish 10 times.

Join us – off of 55th Street in Downers Grove even if you just come for the fish pull. If you can’t make it – I will video the fish pull and do a breakdown. A group fishing class will follow at 1 pm.

If interested in the shore fishing with us – we will meet 2 more times this season and prepare for a season schedule during winter.

Optional info for members wishing to fish Barth Pond:

Depths – most areas fish 2 ft. – 5ft maximum. Mud bottom with very little weeds. Visibility should be average because of August algae. Fish health is pretty good and there are plenty of fish. Channel catfish were stocked several weeks ago and should be acclimated. Bluegill are plentiful and medium sized – compared to other ponds in the area. Some stunted fish with rare big bluegill. Crappies are small and not as plentiful. Bass is a risky target. Bass here tend to be small and tough to find. Best bet – the bluegill population as well as taping into some of Barth Pond’s legendary carp population. These fish tend to be 2 lb. – 7 lb with the occasional monster fish such as the submarine-sized grass carp or large Japanese koi that do survive. You may also luck into a football-sized goldfish as a surprise catch. Apparently, the local kid’s fairs do a great job of getting this lake stocked. Not at all unusual to hook the goldfish on lighter gear.

Main Species: Bluegill

Large Species: Channel Catfish, Carp

Less Common: Crappie, Bullhead

More Rare: Bass, Shiner Minnow, Goldfish

Very Rare:, Japanese Koi

Come visit the demo where my goals will be to catch 100 fish and 20 lb. of fish in 4 hours. See if I can complete my goal at the 12:30 pm fish pull.

The Irish Fishing Series is for all ages. For younger fishers, we encourage you to grab an adult or fishing friend and pair up. Anyone can fish as a pair or individual and this shore series offers the chance for brand new anglers to get their feet wet with help. This way, we can onboard kids, those new to fishing into the fold. Experience anglers are definitely welcome to join us. We may branch off in the future with a Medal Series for those who have fished the Irish for a season or two. One of our key traits is that we bring in the new anglers and get them catching & catching. We do this through pairs fishing and demonstrations.

Our values and goals are to get more people out fishing, help new people to catch a lot more fish and also get kids into fishing more locally.

Too many people wait to get away to remote fishing spots or wait for vacation to fish. There are tons of fish waiting to be caught at our local waters. Get in on the action and fish affordable, lakes, ponds and reservoirs a short drive away. You can learn more about your fishing instructor we have in the CIFS here
